Animal Breeds

A breed is a group of domestic animals with a similar appearance, behavior, and other characteristics that distinguish it from other animals of the same species. When bred together, animals of the same breed pass on these uniform traits to their offspring. The offspring produced as a result of breeding animals of one breed with other animals of another breed are known as crossbreeds, or mixed breeds. Purebreds, are cultivated varieties of an animal species, achieved through the process of selective breeding. What kind of specific breed characteristics or traits could be inherited? Why do you think breeders want to mate certain breeds to reproduce offspring with specific breed qualities?

specific characteristics could be hair colour or personality traits. I think that breeders want to make certain breeds to create new breeds of animals for people to buy. Also, people want to have a unique type of dog so if they have a cross bread then they’ll have a special type of animal unique to others.

I think most breeders try and make a dog or cat etc. that would look interesting and that people had never seen before. For example I saw a dog that was cross between a weiner dog and a black lab. As you could probably guess it was a pretty weird looking dog.

The kind of specific breed characteristics or traits that could be inherited are looks and behavior. Breeders would want to mate certain breeds to reproduce offsprings with specific breed qualities because if the demand for a certain breed is high then, people will pay alot of money for that dog, also certain breeds together look better than others, and finally for different needs you need different breeds, for example a rescue dog, police dog, seeing eye dog and others.
